Jeope and Geoff and others were talking about how we missed the 'HOWie Fridge' just appearing in the Lounge and everyone posting into the same thread whatever they were working on. So we decided that once a month we'd do a traveling road show with the 'HOWie Fridge'.

So everyone feel free to post your current projects, doodles, etc. here.

HOWie Fridge - Traveling Roadshow

I am not a hip-hop kind of guy. Frankly I've never listened to the music. I've enjoyed some of the art related to it though so when a hip hop artist by the name of 'Holliday' contacted me to design a branding for his clothing line called 'Dangerus America' I at first was like "Uh no thanks." But then I started thinking about the cool funky type I see on stuff related to hip-hop and it made me want to do some hand lettering like that so I agreed.

The below links are the three options I gave him. The branding concepts are modular so they can be reformatted for various usages easy enough.

Branding Comp 1
Branding Comp 2
Branding Comp 3

And for all you detail oriented people, yes those are the same eyes and hand/gun I used on the SPEC poster. Ripping yourself off is ok.

Nice, Von. The one with the handgun kinda sums it all up, doesn't it? ;)

Is Dangerus spelled incorrectly on purpose?

I know this isn't for critiquing, but the third one looks more like a logo for a line of baby toys than a dangerous hip-hop feel. The face looks a little too friendly. But I don't know the particulars, so it could be right on. Great readable grafitti, though!

Von, love your style as always. I like the top one I think the best.

As for the Fridge, I'll bite.

Oooh, I wanna play. Most of my stuff is motion but I took a still of a logo for a new show. The graphics package for it is in the works. Since everything needs to be animated and work on various backgrounds, I typically think of the logo as more of a sign. This is one of the comps, but I have a few others I like and am working on.

Cool, I was gonna put this up in the Fridge section when the poster was totally done anyway, but this is a graphic I've been working on for a poster for a peace rally on the 3rd anniversary of the war in Iraq. Even though I'm volunteering my time doing this for the Peace Coalition, it has been really fun and they're putting it on t-shirts so I'll get a couple of those.

Here are a few finished pages from a gigantic project I've been working on – on and off – for the last few weeks (and likely for the next few weeks, too). In terms of volume, the largest project I've ever worked on here, and I cannot wait to see the finished product. It will be a load off, but completely worth it. It's an 11" X 11", 112-page book about the waterfowl of the boreal forest (fancy yes, but a very technical read).

Here are some recent logos that I had various stages of success and acceptance with. Top one is for a company out of Austin...didn't get off the ground. Number two is for a bingo parlor in Portland that they liked very much. Number 3 is for a client in Salem. Let's just say he wasn't wild about it. I liked it though, 'cause it was my attempt at a retro-looking take off of the OK car logo. Oh well. The last one, was for a client in Las Vegas. He liked the logo but didn't like the skyline I drew. Too cartoony. I liked this version better.
